Halo Bell: Gifted

Program Details
The goal of Guardian Angels School is to engage and challenge each student so he or she can succeed now and in the future. We believe in guiding and assisting each child to reach his or her potential academically, socially, and spiritually. To provide challenge for all learners, we are adding a Gifted Program to the curriculum of Guardian Angels. Students identified as gifted in Superior Cognitive Ability will receive specialized instruction from a designated gifted teacher. This will occur during the time provided for Halo Bell, which is 30-minutes, three to four times a week. Guardian Angels is currently in the search process for a Gifted Teacher to head this
project. This gifted program will provide opportunities for individuals to develop advanced thinking, research, study, and communication skills while designing and conducting independent investigations of student interest. It will not be subject specific (Math or E/LA) or replace the classroom instruction in any area.

Who Qualifies?
Not every student who achieves high grades is gifted. According to the Ohio Department of Education, gifted students are defined in the Ohio Revised Code (3324.01) as those who perform or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience or environment. Guardian Angels will use these standards as a guide when identifying students who qualify as being gifted in Superior Cognitive Ability. Qualification standards will be strictly upheld. No exceptions will be made regardless of grades achieved in individual classrooms.

Next Steps
School administration will be contacting the parents of qualifying students during the first few weeks of June to discuss the program in further detail. It will be a voluntary program, leaving the student’s participation up to his or her parent.
